Terry Blasts Walk-Off Home Run to Take Down Carolina

Down East Pulls Out Eighth Walk-Off Win of Season

Kinston, N.C. - With the Wood Ducks down to their final out in the ninth inning, Curtis Terry blasted a three-run home run, to send the Wood Ducks to a 6-4 victory over Carolina.

Kinston, N.C. - With the Wood Ducks down to their final out in the ninth inning, Curtis Terry blasted a three-run home run, to send the Wood Ducks to a 6-4 victory over Carolina.

The Wood Ducks (28-16, 78-36) pick up their eighth walk-off victory of the season, and second against Carolina (18-27, 57-57).
Sam Huff put the Wood Ducks on the board in the first inning with a solo home run to right-center. It was his 11th home run with the Wood Ducks, and 26th overall this season. Huff has now reached base safely in 23 consecutive ballgames.
Carolina would draw even on a Tristen Lutz solo shot leading off the fourth inning against Sal Mendez . The homer was also Lutz's 11th of the year.
It was the only run Mendez allowed in six inning. He gave up seven hits, but did not walk a batter, striking out six. He did not factor in the decision.
Down East went back in front against Nelson Hernandez in the sixth. Diosbel Arias worked a leadoff walk, and advanced to third on a Terry single to right. Julio Pablo Martinez then looped a two-out RBI single to left to put the Woodies ahead, 2-1.
Hendandez worked six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, he walked three and struck out three.
Carolina would even the score again in the seventh. Jefferson Medina lost the strike zone with two outs, loading the bases on a pair of walks and a hit batter. He then hit Mario Feliciano to force home a run, tying the game at 2-2, but bounced back with a strikeout to prevent further damage.
The Woodies answered right back. In the bottom of the seventh, Josh Altmann led off with a single, and moved to third on a Huff single, two batters later. Arias then lifted a sac fly to center to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
The Mudcats faught back against Cole Uvila (win, 4-3). Wes Rogers drew a walk in the eighth and Eddie Silva was hit by a pitch, setting up Devin Hairston for a two-run double to right, as the Mudcats took their first lead of the ballgame, 4-3. Uvila would bounce back, striking out the side in the ninth inning to keep the defecit at one.
In the bottom half of the frame Altmann led off with a walk, and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Michael Petersen (loss, 1-1) then walked Huff with one away, and with two out, hung a breaking ball to Terry who took him deep to left. The home run was Terry's seventh with the Wood Ducks, and 22nd of the season.
The Wood Ducks and Mudcats play the middle game of the series Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Copa de la Diversion series continues with the Woodies playing as the Patos Joyuyos and the Muddies playing as the Pescados de Carolina. Down East will send righty Reid Anderson (6-5, 3.70) to the mound to face off with fellow right-hander Noah Zavolas (6-5, 2.93).
