KINSTON, NC -LeDarious Clark's big day at the plate was washed in a 9-2 defeat to the Pelicans (11-13, 45-49). The DH hit his first home run since his activation from the DL and also pitched in a double in the Wood Ducks' (9-16, 44-51) fifth straight loss.

He led off the game with his double but was left stranded in the first inning as the Woodies' struggles with runners on base continued. They would finish the afternoon 0-for-6 in run-scoring opportunities.
The Woodies scored first for the third straight game on Clark's homer in the third inning. Myrtle Beach would respond in the fifth on a solo homer from Wladimir Galindo - his fifth of the season. With the game tied at one, Franklin Rollin drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the frame to push the DEWDs back in front 2-1.
The Pelicans would respond with eight unanswered runs, starting with a two-run homer by Jared Young. Yohander Méndez's afternoon would end after the sixth, allowing three earned runs and collecting five strikeouts.
In the seventh, the biggest swing of the afternoon came from Jhonny Pereda with the Pelicans leading 4-2. The catcher connected on a three-run homer to blow the game out and lead 7-2. Myrtle Beach added two more runs on the bullpen with a single and bases loaded walk to further the lead.
Down East looks to salvage the final game of the series on Monday at 7:00 p.m. with right-hander Steven Bruce on the mound. He will be countered by Myrtle Beach righty Alex Lange in Dollar Hot Dog Night presented by Stevens Hot Dogs.
