Kinston, N.C. - The Down East Wood Ducks (28-18, 78-38) were swept in a double-header by the Carolina Mudcats (20-27, 59-57), losing game one, 9-5, and falling in game two, 1-0.

Game 1
The Mudcats exploded for a five-run first inning against Reid Anderson (loss, 6-6). The first five men tallied hits against him including a pair of two-run home runs, one from Mario Feliciano , and the other from Peyton Henry, to go ahead, 4-0. Later in the inning, Devin Hairston picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice, scoring Wes Rogers , who reached on a single.
Carolina then got a second two-run homer from Henry in the second inning, to go ahead, 7-0.
Anderson worked four innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits, he walked two and struck out six.
Down East began to chip away Curtis Terry and Julio Pablo Martinez reached on back-to-back singles to begin the second inning to put runners at the corners. Terry then hustled home to score when Martinez was picked off, resulting in a rundown between first and second base. One inning later, Josh Altmann clubbed his third home run of the season, to make it 7-2.
Noah Zavolas worked four innings in the start for Carolina. He gave up two runs on six hits, walked two, and struck out four, and did not factor in the decision.
The Wood Ducks then put together a three-run sixth inning against Peter Strzelecki (win, 1-0). Terry was hit by a pitch and then Yanio Perez singled to put two aboard. Later in the inning, Sherten Apostel and Clay Middleton came through with back-to-back RBI singles, while another run came home on a wild pitch, to make it 7-5.
Carolina however responded with a pair of big insurance runs in the seventh Tristen Lutz doubled to begin the inning, while Rogers lined an RBI single two batters later. Trever Morrison lifted a sac fly to help Carolina to the 9-5 final, with Anthony Bender (save, 2) finishing off the ballgame.
Game 2
A fourth inning solo home run from Tristen Lutz provided all of the offense in the ballgame in a 1-0 Mudcats win. It was the second home run of the series for Lutz, and his 12th of the season.
John King (loss, 2-4) suffered the tough luck loss, giving up a run on four hits over five innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Matt Hardy delivered three scoreless innings in a spot start for Carolina, while Phil Bickford (win, 2-0) picked up the win with two scoreless in relief. Michael Petersen (save, 2) gave up a walk-off homer to Curtis Terry two nights ago, and walked him in the ninth, but struck out the side to close out the win.
The Wood Ducks only threat came when they loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but were unable to get anything across.
Down East hits the road on Friday to take on the Frederick Keys. The Wood Ducks will send righty Tim Brennan (4-0, 2.25) to the mound to face off right-hander Ofelky Peralta (0-2, 8.44) in a rematch from last Friday. The broadcast will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online at 960thebull.com as well as on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio Apps.
