FREDERICK, MD - The Wood Ducks could not sustain a hot start in a 4-3 defeat to the Keys to close the first half. A walk-off homer with two outs in the ninth by Daniel Fajardo won it for Frederick with an 0-2 count.

Anderson Tejeda collected his 50th run batted in of the season in the loss - a mark that leads all of Advanced-A ball. Two batters later, Josh Altmann ripped his eighth homer of the season on a line drive to left. The DEWDs were up 3-0 after a half inning of play.
While the Keys responded in the bottom of the first on a Wilson Garcia sac fly, Sal Mendez delivered four solid innings of work. That run was the only run he allowed in his second start with the Woodies this season.
Garcia returned in the fifth for a two-run double with two outs to tie the game. The Wood Ducks' bullpen would hunker down from there, as Michael Matuella would retire the next seven batters in a row.
Locke St. John entered for the eighth and tossed a 1-2-3 frame as well. In the ninth, the Wood Ducks went down scoreless for the eighth straight inning. Down East only managed six hits on the afternoon.
St. John retired each of the first two batters of the ninth and had Fajardo on the ropes with an 0-2 count. Still, the righty managed to yank a line drive down the left field line and over the wall to win it for the Keys.
The All-Star Break begins on Monday as the league takes three days off to mark the halfway point of the season. Six Wood Ducks will participate in the All-Star Classic in Zebulon, NC on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Down East will return to action on Thursday for a four-game series in Winston-Salem with the Dash.
