The Midwest League has announced that Britt Barry and his assistant Brandon Moravec of the Dayton Dragons have been selected as the recipient of the 2017 Midwest League Sports Turf Manager/Grounds Crew of the Year Award.  The Midwest League Field Managers selected the award winner based on quality of playing surface, infield/outfield turf, and preparation of field, quality of pitching mounds, home plate, bullpens, warning track and crew professionalism. This award is presented by Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball.

From Midwest League President Dick Nussbaum: "As I travel throughout the Midwest League I am always impressed by the quality of fields and the grounds crews which maintain them. Dayton is a worthy recipient of the Sports Turf Award, but it had very stiff competition from the many outstanding teams in our League. Twenty-nine players who were on the World Series rosters last season had played in the Midwest League. I am willing to bet the quality of the fields they played on while playing in our League compared very favorably to what they found in the World Series. Congratulations to Dayton and thank you to all of our teams for their commitment to make our playing surfaces of the highest quality possible."

From Robert Murphy, Dragons President & General Manager: "We are very pleased for our organization, head grounds keeper Britt Barry, and his entire crew for this award. We know how hard they work on the field, especially when you add in all of the extra events at our facility - high school games, charity walks, beer tasting, movie night, 5k. Britt and his crew are meticulous in the care they provide to the field; the maintenance schedules; and we are pleased to be able to provide the resources for him to job his job to the best of his ability."

From Britt Barry, Dragons Sports Turf Manager: "It's such an honor for us to receive this award. There are so many great turf managers and grounds crews in the Midwest League, which is what makes this award so special. I want to give a huge thank you to everyone on our grounds crew, especially Assistant Sports Turf Manager Brandon Moravec. These guys put in so much time and effort into keeping Fifth Third Field the best it can be. This wouldn't be possible without them. The Dayton Dragons organization is world class, providing us with the tools needed to maintain the field to the best of our ability, and the support of the front office staff. Thank you to everyone who has helped us throughout the year, it's truly a team accomplishment for all to enjoy."
