Cy Young Winner has Connection to Fluor Field

David Price was member of '06 Team USA National Team
November 15, 2012
Tampa Bay Rays left-hander David Price was named the winner of the American League Cy Young Award on Wednesday night. The 27-year old posted a 20-5 record in 2012 to go along with a 2.56 ERA and 205 strikeouts in 211 innings.

Price does indeed have a small connection to Greenville. He was part of the USA national collegiate team in 2006 that played an exhibition game against Japan at Fluor Field. The team also featured numerous other major leaguers, including Pedro Alvarez, Darwin Barney, 2012 World Series champion Brandon Crawford, former Drive catcher Tim Federowicz, and Todd Frazier, to name a few. Former Clemson left-hander Daniel Moskos was also a member of the team.

Price posted dominant numbers for the team, who went 28-2-1 during the summer and won the FISU World Championships held in Havana, Cuba. In eight appearances wearing the red, white and blue, Price put up an unbelievable 0.20 ERA and a 5-1 record. In 44 innings of work, he allowed only one earned run and 21 hits while punching out 61 hitters.
