April 21, 2013

The Greenville Drive's "Everybody Plays Here" 2013 Season will showcase students, families, fans and friends from Spartanburg's District 5 School System on Wednesday, April 24th at Fluor Field. This is the 2nd year the D5 Rebels have taken center stage at award winning Fluor Field in downtown Greenville, and representatives from all 12 of the District's schools will take part in the recognition and fun planned before and during the game. Festivities will begin shortly before the 7:05 PM First Pitch, as the Drive face off with the Lakewood BlueClaws.

Throughout the game the D5 Teachers, Support Employees and Terrific Kids of the Year from each of the District's schools will be recognized in the stands and on the DriveVision, with faculty, students and staff taking part in the on-field, between inning entertainment and contests.

Special pre-game activities will include a Parade of Champions, led by the stand out Freshman Football and Basketball teams and DR Hill Girls and Boys Basketball teams, plus a number of D5 SAC Youth Teams from across the District. Ceremonial First Pitch, Honorary Captains, Play Ball Announcer and other pregame honorary roles will be filled by distinguished student leaders, faculty and staff, and the Byrnes Singers will perform the National Anthem.

Drive President and Co-Owner Craig Brown commented on the special D5 Rebel Nation Night saying, "It is always a thrill to be able to celebrate an effort or accomplishment at Fluor Field that demonstrates why the Upstate is such a remarkable place to live, work and raise a family. Clearly, the quality and success of the educational experience, learning opportunities and character development provided by the Spartanburg District 5 schools is a remarkable example of the South Carolina Upstate at its best."

Bobby Bentley, District 5's Public Relations Director and Byrnes High School Head Football Coach, added, "We are excited to have this opportunity to enjoy some D5 fun at a Drive game, and to give a special pat on the back to a few of the individuals who have stood out this year in their accomplishments and service across the District. We appreciate the Drive dedicating an entire game of its "Everybody Plays Here" Season to celebrate and recognize the people and programs that make Spartanburg District 5 the outstanding school district it is!"

Mike deMaine, Drive General Manager, noted, "D5 Rebels Night at Fluor Field is a great example of how the Drive and its community partners are working together to promote, celebrate and sustain the quality of life advantages we enjoy here in the Upstate. The Drive and District 5 share a number of important values and key commitments, and we are delighted to showcase their success at Fluor Field."
