Drive Shut Out for Second Straight Night

Final series of the season begins Friday at 7:05 at Fluor Field
August 28, 2014

Charleston, SC - For the second consecutive night, the Charleston RiverDogs (35-31, 68-68) had the Greenville Drive's (23-43, 57-77) number, as a 17-hit outburst plus quality pitching gave the home team a 10-0 win in Thursday's series finale.

Charleston wasted no time taking care of business in this one, scoring five runs in the first inning and knocking out Drive starter Jamie Callahan (3-13), who recorded just two outs. All five runs came on a pair of hits, as Miguel Andujar drove in two with a double and Jackson Valera's double plated three.

Luis Niebla (3-1) took care of the rest, shutting down the Drive over seven innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out seven.

The RiverDogs offense received contributions up and down the lineup on Thursday, as eight of nine starters collected hits, with five of them boasting multi-hit games. Yeicok Calderon had four hits, while Valera had three hits and four RBI and Andujar had three hits and two RBI. Bubba Jones and Michael O'Neill chipped in with two hits each.

The game wraps up the first annual Battle of the Palmetto State rivalry series presented by Spinx, and it also concludes the Drive's road schedule for 2014.

The Drive will kick off their final series of the season on Friday night at Fluor Field as they welcome the Lexington Legends to town for a four-game series. RH Teddy Stankiewicz (10-8, 3.85) will deliver the first pitch at 7:05 PM, while the Legends will send LH Cody Reed (3-8, 5.65) to the mound.
