Drive Sweep Tourists in Thursday's Doubleheader

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive gave the Asheville Tourists double the trouble on Thursday night by sweeping a pair of games in front of 5,165 fans at Fluor Field. The Drive won the opener 10-3 while taking the nightcap by a 3-1 score.

Thursday marked the Drive's (26-13) second consecutive doubleheader sweep dating back to last season, when Greenville swept Charleston in a pair of games on August 6^th.
The Drive offense continued its recent hot stretch in the opener by collecting 12 hits. They tagged Tourists (17-22) starter Riley Pint (1-5) for six hits and five runs before doing the same against the bullpen. 
With the score tied at 1-1 in the third, the Drive erupted for four runs to take the lead for good. Santiago Espinal's RBI single put Greenville ahead, and Ryan Scott followed with an RBI groundout. The inning was capped by Roldani Baldwin's two-run homer to center field, his team-leading sixth of the year.
Five more runs in the sixth provided even more cushion, as Espinal, Tyler Hill and Baldwin all delivered run-scoring hits in the frame.
Mike Shawaryn (3-2) picked up the win in the opener, as he struck out five over six innings while allowing just two runs. Both of Asheville's runs came on solo homers, with Vince Fernandez hitting one in the first and Jose Gomez adding one in the fifth.
Baldwin went 3-4 with a homer, a triple and four RBI in game one. Espinal, Chris Madera and Carlos Tovar added two hits apiece.
The nightcap saw Daniel Gonzalez (5-0) throw five terrific innings, striking out eight and allowing just two hits and one run. Hunter Smith closed out the game with two scoreless frames to notch his second save.
An Asheville error in the bottom of the first put the Drive ahead 1-0, and after Willie Abreu's long solo homer in the second tied the game, the Drive plated two runs in the third off Ty Culbreth (1-2). Lorenzo Cedrola led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball, and Scott's RBI double to left brought home Madera, who reached on a single.
Madera and Scott each had two hits in the nightcap for Greenville.
The series continues on Friday night at Fluor Field at 7:05. Left-hander Logan Boyd (5-1, 3.50) takes the mound for the Drive, and the Tourists will start right-hander Antonio Santos (1-3, 3.50).
