HBCU Classic is Friday at 7 PM at Fluor Field

Paine College, Clark Atlanta University set to recognize Jackie Robinson's legacy
April 9, 2013

On April 12th, the Drive and Michelin will pay tribute to a man that has made the most significant impact on the game of baseball - Jackie Robinson - with the 5th Annual HBCU Classic at Fluor Field.

Drive General Manager, Mike deMaine, commented on the day, saying, "Jackie Robinson did so much for the game of baseball. He set a new standard in the sport, en route to becoming a Hall of Famer, and we want to honor his spirit and drive on April 12th. This special celebration also includes the fifth year in a row that we've hosted two Historically Black Colleges and Universities at Fluor Field."

"Commemorating Jackie Robinson's historic debut more than six decades ago provides an opportunity to share with young people an understanding of the importance of diversity both on the field and in society," added Herb Johnson, Director of Community Relations for Michelin North America. "Perhaps no other game reflects the cultural diversity of our country and community on a day-to-day, team-by-team level as well as the game of baseball. We are proud to partner with the Drive to support this event and the charities it will benefit."

This special day will begin at 7 PM, when the Paine College Lions and the Clark Atlanta University Panthers. Both schools are recognized Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Following the game, fans will be treated to a spectacular fireworks display at Fluor Field.
