Port Charlotte, FL.---Solid pitching highlights series for Dunedin, giving up only 5 runs across all three games against the Stone Crabs to start the week.
Game 1:
The Blue Jays opened their second away series this year in Port Charlotte on Monday against the Stone Crabs. The bats stayed quiet through the first three innings in the opening game as the Blue Jays were only able to get one hit each inning with one runner reaching scoring position. Maximo Castillo had a strong start allowing just one baserunner through two innings, but in the 3rd gave up the only run of the game for the Stone Crabs off of a Vidal Brujan double. The Blue Jays came right back in the 4th inning with Riley Adams scoring from a Norberto Obeso fielders' choice. It was a balanced night offensively as Dunedin only saw Cullen Large record more than one hit. Samad Taylor pushed the game out of reach in the 9th inning with his first home run to extend the Dunedin lead to 5-1. Ryan Noda finished the scoring, driving in Cullen Large with a single to center field and taking the first game of the series 6-1.
Game 2:
Nick Allgeyer took the hill for the middle game of the three game set on Tuesday looking to get the Blue Jays their 3rd series win in four tries. The righty came into the game with a 1.85 ERA after his two starts to begin the season. Allgeyer had his longest outing going six scoreless innings striking out four, bringing his total to 17 tied for the seventh best mark in the Florida State League. The clean six innings also helped bring Allgeyer's ERA down to 1.15, fifth overall among qualified players in the league. The Blue Jays needed just two runs in the contest coming from a Christian Williams single to score Ryan Noda, and Demi Orimoloye knocked in Riley Adams after grounding out to the third baseman Zach Rutherford. The pitching staff saw Kyle Weatherly get the hold and Matt Shannon secured his second save of the year. In total the staff allowed seven hits, struck out seven batters, held the Stone Crabs to 0-8 with RISP, and stranded 12 runners on base. Dunedin took the game 2-1 and would be looking to complete their first sweep on Wednesday afternoon in Port Charlotte.
Game 3:
The Wednesday finale got off to an odd start as Dunedin scored from Chavez Young stealing third combined with a throwing error from the Stone Crabs' catcher, Zacrey Law. Charlotte followed up the next inning scoring after Justin Dillon hit three of four batters that saw Moises Gomez tie the game at 1-1. Through the next three innings the two teams went back and forth with the Blue Jays going ahead in the 2nd inning from a Cal Stevenson triple to score Logan Warmoth. The Stone Crabs took little time to tie the game in the 3rd inning off the bat of Moises Gomez for a solo home run. The trend continued in the 4th as Cal Stevenson drove in his second run of the game, and Charlotte followed up in the 5th inning tying the game at 3-3 with a Carl Chester single. It was scoreless the rest of the way until the bottom of the 9th inning Moises Gomez hit a sacrifice fly to right field with Ryan Noda unable to throw the runner out at home to give the Stone Crabs a walk-off win by the score of 4-3, their first win in eight tries.
The Blue Jays take the field again at Jack Russell Stadium tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. against the Lakeland Flying Tigers who sit in second place of the FSL North behind Dunedin.
