RHP Tony Dibrell was solid in his second consecutive start, tossing six innings giving up just one earned run. The Mets scored first in the bottom of the third when Blake Tiberi smacked an RBI double to the right field corner to score Manny Rodriguez. Jacob Zanon pushed a single through the hole on the right side into right to score Tiberi to make it 2-0 St. Lucie.
Samad Taylor's RBI double cut the Mets lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the sixth, Jacob Zanon singled to center to start the rally for the Mets. Carlos Cortes looped a double down the right-field line to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Jeremy Vasquez hammered a single to center to score Zanon. The next hitter Cody Bohanek grounded one to second for Samad Taylor who threw out the runner Cortes at the plate trying to score from third. Mitch Ghelfi struck out swinging for out number two. Matt Winaker was issued a walk to load the bases and that knocked RHP Maximo Castillo out of his start. Righty Emerson Jimenez came on in relief and uncorked a wild pitch allowing Vasquez to score to improve the Mets lead to 4-1.
Down 4-1, Dunedin loaded the bases loaded in the eighth but failed to score. RHP Joe Cavallaro notched his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Game 2
RHP Joey Murray secures his fourth victory in his last six outings as the Blue Jays pick up the 3-1 win in game two of the three game series. Murray held St. Lucie to just two hits off the bats of Carlos Cortes and Jeremy Vasquez in the bottom of the first. Vasquez drove in the lone run of the game in the first with an RBI double to give the Mets the lead first for the second straight game.
From that point Murray started to cruise, having retired the next 13 hitters in a row. His performance allowed Dunedin to tie and take the lead with a run in the fourth and two more in the top of the seventh. Nick Podkul drove in his second run in as many nights in the fourth to tie the game.
In the top of the seventh, the Blue Jays created a two out rally. Alejandro Kirk walked and Demi Orimoloye singled to put two runners on. Kacy Clemens smacked a double down the right-field line allowing Kirk and Orimoloye to score to give Dunedin their first lead of the series. RHP Jackson Rees and Brad Wilson tossed three scoreless out of the pen with Rees and Wilson notching the hold and save respectively.
Game 3
The Blue Jays managed just three hits and stumbled to a 3-0 loss in the series finale to the St. Lucie Mets at First Data Field.
The Mets scored first for the third consecutive night first. In the top of the second Matt Winaker drove in the game's first run to make it 1-0 St. Lucie. In the bottom of the third, Edgardo Fermin smacked a single to right and was driven in by Blake Tiberi's RBI double to bring the Mets lead to 2-0. St. Lucie capped off their scoring in the bottom of the fifth when Jeremy Vasquez hammered a single to right to score Jacob Zanon to bring the score to its' final of 3-0.
St. Lucie utilized five different pitchers on the night. RHP Jake Simon made his first start of the year and tossed three scoreless innings. RHP Darwin Ramos notched his second win of the year in his fifth consecutive scoreless appearance. As a unit, the Mets pitchers struck out 12 Blue Jays hitters on the night.
Dunedin continues their road trip with three against Daytona beginning tomorrow night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. LHP Nick Allgeyer (5-3, 2.63) makes the start for Dunedin against RHP Wendolyn Bautista (0-2, 2.96) throwing for Daytona.
