Nick Allgeyer was dominant from the get go with a three up three down first inning. A strikeout to the first batter of the 2nd inning kept the momentum going for the lefty, but a double and walk threatened the Blue Jays. Two strikeouts in a row ended the inning, and Allgeyer continued to cruise.
The Blue Jays came up in the bottom half of the second with an odd start to the inning. Three straight hit batters loaded the bases for Kacy Clemens. He ripped a single through the left side of the infield and gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. A walk to Kevin Vicuña two batters later extended the lead, and Cal Stevenson finished off the scoring with a single to center field bringing in Chavez Young and Kacy Clemens. A couple of strikeouts ended the inning, but the damage was done to the tune of 4 runs. This was all the support the pitching staff needed for the game.
The starter, Nick Allgeyer, completed his night with 89 pitches through six innings. Seven strikeouts, one walk, and one earned run. He picked up his fourth win on the year in his first game since being named a Florida State League All-Star. The bullpen duo of Kyle Weatherly and Matt Shannon continued right where Allgeyer left off through the final three frames. Weatherly recorded his sixth hold of the year, and Shannon picked up his team leading fourth save of the year. Shannon saw trouble in the 9th inning with runners at 2nd and third with two outs, but the closer wasn't bothered by the noise of the base paths striking out the final batter to end the game.
Dunedin were able to put runners in scoring position again in the 3rd inning with just one out, but a heads up play from Welfrin Mateo caught Chavez Young in between 2nd and third, and he was able to double up Kacy Clemens at first to end the inning. The Blue Jays recorded four more hits in the final six innings, and they couldn't really get things going after getting to JP Sears early.
The Blue Jays have been able to continue their dominance on both sides of the ball for their 15th win of the year, and the 31st win overall. A starting staff with the best WHIP in the Minors (1.05), 3rd in runs allowed (86), 2nd in ERA (2.69), and T-5 in wins (20) has highlighted the success so far this year by Dunedin in the Florida State League. A sweep is up for grabs on Thursday night as the Blue Jays finish off the quick three-game set with the Tarpons at 6:30 PM.
