Game 1
The first game of the series was a makeup from the matchup in the first week of May. A rainout on May 5th setup a Monday doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. The Mets jumped out to an early lead of the seven inning contest with a run in the 1st. A double from Jeremy Vasquez put Carlos Cortes at third and Quinn Brodey drove the run in by way of a sac fly. Dunedin was able to knock a hit for the first six innings, while Quinn Brodey added another run with a sacrifice fly. Joey Murray pitched a great game for the Blue Jays to keep it close as he went five innings with just the two runs crossing. The outing saw his season ERA go to 1.88 over 14.1 innings pitched.
It seemed like the Mets had the game in hand with the one hit allowed through six innings, but the Blue Jays came out of the slump at the perfect time in the 7th inning. Cullen Large got the rally going with a double to open the frame. Alejandro Kirk followed right behind with an opposite field base hit to score the first run for Dunedin. Samad Taylor came in to run for Kirk as the tying run of the game. Ryan Noda bunted Taylor to second to get the possible winning run in scoring position with one out. Chavez Young hit a grounder to the shortstop for the Mets, but it resulted in a throwing error to put runners on the corners. Demi Orimoloye would tie the game with a single, and Kevin Vicuña knocked in the eventual winning run with a double to right field. The inning would end after Cullen Large came up for his second at-bat of the inning to single home Kevin Vicuna and make the score 5-2.
Brad Wilson shut the door on the Mets in the bottom of the inning with two strikeouts and a groundout for his second save of the season. Gage Burland picked up the win for Dunedin in his first appearance since coming over from extended spring training.
Game 2
It was another solid pitching outing for the Blue Jays in game two of the doubleheader as Turner Larkins looked to get his fourth win of the year. He was able to go six scoreless innings with five strikeouts in his longest outing of the year. During the 4th inning, the Blue Jays were able to get two runs across on two hits. Kevin Vicuna drove in Kacy Clemens with a sacrifice fly and Samad Taylor brought in Demi Orimoloye with a double to left field.
The 2-0 lead would end up being enough for Dunedin as they would allow just one hit through the final three innings. Dany Jimenez picked up his third save on the year by striking out three of the four batters he faced with one strikeout victim reaching by way of a wild pitch.
Game 3
The third game of the series was the only bump in the road for the Blue Jays as they couldn't scrape across any runs for a 3-0 loss to the Mets. Ryan Noda, Cullen Large, and Chavez Young were the only three Blue Jays to reach base in the contest with Young recording the only extra-base hit for Dunedin with a two-out double in the 8th inning.
The Mets scored their first run off of Graham Spraker from a Jacob Zanon home run to left field. In the next inning, Spraker got into a jam with a triple to open the bottom of the 3rd inning. He was able to limit the damage to just one run as Blake Tiberi hit a sacrifice fly to Chavez Young for the 2-0 lead. Overall, Graham Spraker finished his outing with just two earned runs through six innings pitched. It was his first loss of the season after winning his first four decisions of the year.
Tommy Wilson was the winning pitcher for the Mets with seven shutout innings for his fourth win of the year. The Mets pitching staff punched out the Blue Jays eight times in the contest and allowed just three total bases. The Blue Jays looked to bounce back in the final game of the four game series with Maximo Castillo on the mound.
Game 4
It was a 3 hour and 35 minute marathon in the final game, which was the longest game of the year for Dunedin. A day after the offense was unable to break the run column the Blue Jays made up for it in the final game of the series. The first three innings seemed to be similar to the game on Tuesday as the Blue Jays couldn't string together any hits, but Maximo Castillo was dominate through the first three innings as well with two hits given up and no runners reaching scoring position.
The Blue Jays exploded in the 4th inning for a scoring frenzy that would give them nine runs, their most runs scored in one inning during the season. Christopher Bec singled to get the inning started. Chavez Young then took a 3-2 pitch to left field for his second home run of the year. The bases would be loaded for Kevin Vicuna after Jesus Navarro singled to score Kacy Clemens. Vicuna grounded into a double play that seemed to halt the momentum for Dunedin, but Norberto Obeso came up with the next at-bat the single home Samad Taylor. After a couple of walks and hits from Young and Demi Orimoloye the inning would finish at nine runs scored. The totals for the inning included eight hits and four walks. Two hits went for extra bases and the Mets were forced into two pitching changes through the one inning. 14 batters came to the plate with the final out coming by way of a Samad Taylor strikeout.
Dunedin finished the game with 14 total hits and 11 runs scored, which is the fourth game this season with 10 or more runs scored. The 2018 Dunedin Blue Jays had six total games of 10 or more runs all last year. The Blue Jays gave up two runs in the 5th and 3 runs in the 8th, but Dunedin was always in control of the last game to close out the series in style against the Mets.
