Steward Berroa Caps off Thrilling Extra Inning Victory

The Dunedin Blue Jays won in thrilling fashion on Friday night after a back and forth game goes to extra innings. After a quiet first two innings where neither team scored a run, the Blue Jays went on to score at least one run in the final eight innings played.

After a quiet first two innings where neither team scored a run, the Blue Jays went on to score at least one run in the final eight innings played. The pitching staff struggled with the long ball all night as every pitcher expect Gabriel Ponce gave up a home runs with five total home runs allowed in the game. Gabriel Ponce earned his first win of the season in extras, and he did so with three strikeouts across two innings and no hits allowed.

The offense was the star of the show on Friday as 13 hits propelled the team to victory. Dasan Brown opened the scoring in the contest with a double to bring home Steward Berroa after Berroa had stolen second base. This was one of the four stolen bases he had in the game including stealing home to tie the game in the 7th inning. The Blue Jays also had a hit in eight of the 10 innings. Orelvis Martinez was a major catalyst in the lineup driving in three runs including a long home run in the 8th inning. It was the second four-hit game of the series for Martinez as well.

The biggest hit of the first nine innings came from PK Morris who drove home two runs with two outs to tie the game. The single was his second hit on the night part of his own three RBI day. The extra frame saw the offense explode beginning with an RBI double from Mack Mueller to bring home the runner on second. Steward Berroa in the next at-bat hit a two-run blast into the bullpens to extend the lead to 13-10. Orelvis Martinez plated the final insurance runs with a double to left-center field with Harry Ray and Addison Barger coming home.

Gabriel Ponce finished things off with a double play followed by a strikeout of Luis Garcia to earn the third win of the series. Dunedin looks to go for their first series win since June 12th against the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
