Bulls shortstop Vidal Brujan smashed four hits and center fielder Josh Lowe drove in three runs, while first baseman Tristan Gray and catcher Rene Pinto both went deep in Durham’s 9-3 victory over the Worcester Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at Polar Park.

After Worcester jumped out an early 2-0 advantage, Gray crushed a solo shot in the subsequent frame, his league-leading 25th blast of the year, to narrow the deficit to one. Pinto would then bash Durham’s second longball of the day, a go-ahead two-run blast in the sixth, to make it 3-2.

The Bulls would later extend their advantage with a four-run seventh highlighted by Brujan’s RBI single, a sacrifice fly from Lowe and DH Grant Witherspoon’s two-run single. Lowe one inning later lofted a two-run double to left to make it 9-2, before the Red Sox plated a tally in the eighth to make it a six-run deficit.

Brujan (4-5, R, RBI) led all batters with his four knocks, while Witherspoon (3-5, 2 RBI) and Lowe (2-3, R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB) added multi-hit efforts of their own. Pinto (1-2, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, 3 BB) reached base four times with his home run, in addition to three walks.

Durham righty JT Chargois (0.2 IP) earned the victory, combining with Nick Anderson (1.0 IP, 1 SO) for 1.2 shutout frames as part of their Major League Rehab Assignments with the Bulls, after Cooper Criswell (3.1 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 SO) tossed 3.1 scoreless innings. Worcester reliever Caleb Simpson (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB) suffered the defeat.

Following a league-wide off day on Monday, the Bulls return home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park to start a six-game series with the East Division leading Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Tuesday, August 9. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm. RHP Kevin Herget is anticipated to get the nod for Durham and be opposed by RHP Bryan Hoeing.

Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
