Bulls, CBC, MiLB Charities Donate to Miracle League

April 18, 2013

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls and Capitol Broadcasting have partnered with Minor League Baseball™ Charities to donate $12,500 to the Miracle League of Franklin County, a baseball league for children with mental and physical disabilities. Specifically, the funds will go to help complete construction of a special field with a rubber playing surface so children with assistive devices can easily and safely maneuver and play ball.

Representatives of the Miracle League will be on hand prior to this Saturday's Bulls game against the Norfolk Tides to receive the donation in a pregame ceremonial check presentation. Donna Wade, Executive Director of the Franklin County Miracle League, and her daughter Laci Wade, a Miracle League athlete, will be among the ceremony's recognized guests.

"We were so impressed with the determination and enthusiasm to get this project completed in Franklin County that we immediately reached out to Minor League Baseball Charities, and thankfully they shared our desire to contribute," said George Habel, Vice President of Capitol Broadcasting's Sports Group. "The school system and county commissioners have provided land and funding, but the facility needs to be finished. Seeing that this will help children with disabilities in five counties, we wanted to help get it wrapped up."

"Assisting with the completion of this field is an opportunity for us to give back to a community that has a long history of supporting Minor League Baseball," said MiLB™ Assistant Director of Business Development Jill Dedene, who manages the day-to-day operations of Minor League Baseball Charities.  "The fact that children, parents and individuals from several counties will benefit from our efforts reinforces the idea of charity beginning at home. This is an area that Minor League Baseball has called home for many years."

The Durham Bulls, in the midst of their longest homestand of the season, host the Charlotte Knights this afternoon at 11:05am. Tickets for all home games are available at durhambulls.com, by phone at 919.956.BULL, or at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park box office.
