Bulls Edge Louisville, 3-2
Louisville, KY --- Richie Shaffer singled home the tie-breaking run in the sixth to lead the Durham Bulls past the Louisville Bats 3-2 on Sunday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
After a grounder by JP Arencibia tied the game in the sixth, Shaffer guided an opposite field single against Josh Smith (L, 1-3) to score Mikie Mahtook to put the Bulls (38-27) ahead 3-2.
Scott Diamond (W, 7-2) became the fourth seven-game winner in the International League, working 5 1/3 innings, permitting six hits and two runs to earn the victory.
Jhan Marinez, Kirby Yates and Ronald Belisario (S, 17) collaborated for the final 3 2/3 innings to close out the win.
Durham took a 1-0 lead in the second when Hak-Ju Lee singled home Arencibia.
Louisville (32-32) countered on a two-run, two-out double by Hernan Irbarren in the fourth for a 2-1 lead.
The Bulls will take a two-game South Division lead over Norfolk into Indianapolis on Monday night in the opener of three against the Indians.
