Bulls fall behind early, drop game 2 to Stripers

The Durham Bulls (12-20) fell in game two of the six-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers (17-15) by an 8-4 score at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Wednesday night. The Bulls registered 11 hits in the loss.

Gwinnett wasted no time getting things started as CF Drew Waters went yard on a solo shot on the firs_t_. 3B Pat Valaika would follow suit later in the first and connect on a two-run shot to take a 3-0 lead. Bulls 1B Jim Haley would leave his mark on the home run party as he ignited a solo bomb to get Durham on the board in the bottom of the second.

C Chadwick Tromp continued the home run fiesta for the Stripers, as he went yard for the second time in as many games on a solo shot in the third. DH Alex Dickerson *would push the homer count to four for Gwinnett later in the third on another solo shot for the 5-1 lead. SS *Braden Shewmake** used an RBI single in the fourth to extend the Stripers lead to five.

Bulls C Rene Pinto would get hot in the sixth and connect on a RBI single to trim the deficit to four. Gwinnett would respond in the seventh as RF Greyson Jenista added his name to the scorebook in the seventh on an RBI double for the 8-2 lead. Haley would again go yard for the Bulls in the eighth inning, securing his second multi-homer game of the season on another solo shot in the seventh. 3B Isaac Paredes would drill an RBI single to trim the deficit to 8-4.

Durham pitcher Tommy Romero got the start on the hill, throwing four innings, allowing six runs, eight hits and three strikeouts, picking up the loss. Gwinnett pitcher Tucker Davidson earned the win.

The Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Thursday, for game three versus the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A affiliate Gwinnett Stripers. The Bulls are scheduled to start RHP Joel Peguero (0-0,4.15) and Gwinnett is scheduled to start RHP Bryce Elder (0-0,2.57). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
