Norfolk, VA --- Christian Arroyo had three extra base hits, while Jake Cronenworth homered and drove in two as the Durham Bulls held off the Norfolk Tides 4-3 to regain the South Division lead on Tuesday night at Harbor Park.
Arroyo doubled twice and tripled, driving home two runs as the Bulls (26-17) took a 3-0 lead after five innings. Arroyo doubled home Nate Lowe, who opened the second inning with a two-base hit. In the fifth, Cronenworth homered to center against Norfolk (20-22) starting pitcher Tyler Herb (L, 3-1). Later in the inning, Arroyo tripled to left-center to score Kean Wong for a three-run lead.
After the Tides closed to within 3-1, Cronenworth reached in the eighth on an infield single to bring home Jason Coats for a 4-1 advantage.
Norfolk's Ryan Mountcastle clubbed an opposite-field homer against Jake Faria (W, 4-1) to pull the Tides to within 4-3, but Andrew Kittredge (S, 3) recorded the final five outs to nail down his third save.
Durham's win, coupled with Gwinnett's loss to Charlotte sent the Bulls back into sole possession of first place in the South, one-half game ahead of Gwinnett.
Jose DeLeon worked 2 2/3 innings in his second rehab start for Durham, permitting one hit and two walks, fanning two. Faria earned the win by pitching 4 2/3 frames, allowing four hits and three runs, striking out four.
The Bulls won for the 12th time in their last 13 road games.
The series continues on Wednesay night at 6:35 PM ET with Austin Pruitt scheduled to start against Keegan Akin.
