June 29, 2014

Pawtucket, RI --- Enny Romero surrendered three home runs to Pawtucket as the PawSox beat the Durham Bulls 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.

Dan Butler, Corey Brown and Travis Shaw all took Romero (L, 3-9) out for homers as the PawSox (44-41) won their season-high fifth straight game.

Romero, who needed 99 pitches for just 4 2/3 innings, allowed six runs over his outing, snapping a streak of three straight quality starts for the Bulls (45-40). Romero absorbed his ninth loss of the season, tying him for the most in the International League.

Butler's homer came in the second after a single, then Brown and Shaw hit solo shots in the fourth and fifth innings repectively to give Pawtucket a 7-0 after five frames.

Chris Hernandez (W, 4-6) retired the first 14 hitters en route to his fourth win. Curt Casali broke up his bid for perfection with a two-out single to left in the fifth.

Trailing 7-0 in the seventh, the Bulls scored twice against Hernandez. Mike Fontenot singled to center, followed by a double to deep left-center by Justin Christian. Mikie Mahtook lifted a sac fly for the Bulls' first run, then a grounder by Jeremy Moore scored Christian.

Down 7-2 in the ninth, Mahtook drilled a two-run homer to left-center against Drake Britton to close the gap to 7-4. With closer Tommy Layne warming in the bullpen, Casali bounced into a double play to end the game.

The series continues Monday night at 7:05 PM ET with Nathan Karns (4-4, 5.50) opposing Anthony Raunado (8-4, 2.54).
