Syracuse, NY --- Irving Falu had three hits and three RBI to lead Syracuse past Durham 11-5 on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
Falu, 35, doubled home a run in the second against Jake Faria (L, 0-1), then singled home two against Chih-Wei Hu in the fifth sending the Chiefs (39-55) to a series-evening win over the Bulls (54-40).
Faria lasted just two innings in his second Triple-A rehab start. Leading 3-0 after a half inning, Faria walked the first two hitters of the game, then saw an error by first baseman Brandon Snyder to permit the Chiefs' first run to score. A double play ball brought in a second as the Chiefs closed to within 3-2.
A fielding error by shortstop Willy Adames started the second, then a walk set up Falu's first hit, a run-scoring double down the left field line. Matt Reynolds drove in a pair with a triple, then scored on a groundout as the Chiefs pushed ahead 6-3.
Hu allowed five runs on 34 pitches in the fifth, then shut down the Chiefs over his final three innings.
Durham took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to three straight walks from Phillips Valdez. Christian Arroyo's double play ball scored Wong from third for a 1-0 advantage. Snyder followed with a triple to left-center to make it 2-0, with Johnny Field subsequently singling down the left field line for the third run of the inning.
Valdez worked into the fourth inning, but was knocked out when a Jason Coats line drive struck him on the pitching elbow.
Down 6-3 in the fifth, Adames doubled to left, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Lowe.
After the Chiefs extended the lead against Hu, Wong drilled a solo home run to right in the seventh to slice the final margin to 11-5. Wong also homered Monday night in the series opener.
The series concludes on Wednesday at noon with Andrew Moore opposing Tommy Milone.
