Offense struggles in 4-1 defeat to Lehigh Valley
August 2, 2014

ALLENTOWN, PA - The Durham Bulls dropped their third straight game, falling 4-1 to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.

In the opener of a four-game set, the IronPigs (53-62) scored two runs in the first frame, one in the second and one in the third to jump out to a 4-0 lead through three innings.

The advantage proved to be more than enough for right-hander Sean O'Sullivan (5-9), who tossed seven innings of one-run ball to earn the win. The lone run he surrendered came in the seventh, when Vince Belnome doubled down the right field line to score Mikie Mahtook.

Righty Matt Andriese (11-6) lost for the second time in his last three starts, allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits over six innings of work, while Brandon Gomes and Josh Lueke combined for two innings of shutout relief. Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez picked up his first save in his Triple-A debut with a scoreless ninth for Lehigh Valley.

Mahtook led the six-hit attack for the Bulls (59-54), finishing 3-for-4, while Justin Christian, Belnome and Ray Olmedo tallied the other three hits. With his 0-for-4 night, Jeremy Moore saw his 21-game on-base streak come to an end.

The series continues Sunday evening at 5:35 p.m. when RHP Nathan Karns (8-5, 4.76) takes the mound for Durham opposite RHP Brad Lincoln (5-7, 4.73) for Lehigh Valley.
