Bulls southpaw Dietrich Enns tossed six strong innings of relief, striking out ten batters while yielding a lone run on just two hits, while catcher Rene Pinto and shortstop Tristan Gray bashed back-to-back home runs in Durham’s 7-3 triumph over the Charlotte Knights on Wednesday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Enns (6.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 10 K) earned his sixth victory while retiring 18 of the 20 batters he faced, including 15 of his first 16. The ten punchouts were the most recorded by a Bulls reliever this season and Enns’ second-highest total of the year following his 12-strikeout performance on July 1 versus Gwinnett. Durham right-hander Brent Honeywell Jr. (3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 K) opened with the first three innings of work, while Charlotte starter Jimmy Lambert (3.1 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat.

The Knights struck first with a two-spot in the second, before Pinto and Gray bashed back-to-back solo jacks to even the game in the third. Durham would then strike for five in the subsequent frame thanks in part to 2B Kevin Padlo’s RBI double to left, as well as DH Brett Sullivan’s bases-loaded walk, to push ahead 7-2. Charlotte brought home the game’s final tally via a ninth-inning sacrifice fly.

Gray (2-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) was the lone Bulls batter to record a multi-hit effort in the victory. Pinto has recorded at least one hit in eight of his nine contests with Durham this year, including each of his last seven. The victory was the Bulls’ 11th in 14 matchups with the Knights in 2021.

Durham and Charlotte are scheduled to face off in the third game of their series on Thursday evening, with first pitch slated for 6:35pm ET. Tampa Bay Rays RHP Chris Archer (0-0, 10.80) is expected to start for the Bulls for the second time as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment, while the Knights are anticipated to send RHP Alex McRae (2-4, 5.28) to the hill. Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining Bulls home games are available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
