Bulls Drop Game One to Rochester

Losing streak hits six in 4-3 defeat
May 19, 2015

ROCHESTER, NY - The Durham Bulls dropped their sixth straight game, falling 4-3 to the Rochester Red Wings in the first game of a day-night doubleheader Tuesday morning at Frontier Field.

The Red Wings (22-16) opened the scoring in the second inning, as James Beresford delivered an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. In the fourth the home side increased its lead when Brock Peterson drilled a two-run homer.

Durham (20-20) got a run back in the fifth, as Luke Maile walked, Hak-Ju Lee doubled and Vince Belnome drove Maile home on a sacrifice fly to rightfield. The Red Wings re-opened their three-run lead in the bottom of the frame though on a throwing error.

The Bulls weren't done however, scoring on an RBI single by Jake Elmore in the eighth inning, and a solor homer by Lee to lead off the bottom of the ninth. The next three hitters after Lee's homer went down in order though, extending the Durham losing skid.

Right-hander Chih-Wei Hu (1-0) earned the win in his first career start above the Advanced-A level by tossing six innings of one-run ball. AJ Achter earned his fifth save, despite allowing Lee's homer in the final innings. Southpaw Scott Diamond (3-2) took the loss against his former team, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Game two of the doubleheader is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m., when LHP Enny Romero (1-0, 3.86) takes the hill for Durham opposite RHP Alex Meyer (2-2, 7.01) for Rochester.
