Bulls Edged by Tides to Drop Second Straight

Offense silent again in 2-1 loss to Norfolk
August 2, 2016

NORFOLK, VA - The Durham Bulls dropped their second straight game to the Norfolk Tides Tuesday night at Harbor Park, falling 2-1.

Tied 1-1 in the seventh inning, Corban Joseph beat out a potential inning-ending double play to score Dariel Alvarez from third base and give the Tides (45-65) a 2-1 lead. Zach Phillips (8-3) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, while Pedro Beato earned his third save of the year by retiring the only two batters he faced in the ninth.

Norfolk scored the game's first run on an RBI double by Michael Almanzar in the second inning. Durham (51-60) came back to tie the contest in the sixth, as Jake Hager singled, advanced to third on Casey Gillaspie's single, and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by JP Arencibia. That was as close as the visitors would come though, as no runner advanced past first base over the game's final three innings.

Hager went 2-for-4 in Durham's six-hit night, as he was the lone Bull to record a multi-hit game. After scoring at least five runs in six straight games over a 6-0 homestand, Durham managed just one run and 10 hits across the two-game set at Harbor Park.

The home-and-home series turns to the DBAP on Wednesday, when the Bulls send RHP Austin Pruitt (8-6, 2.99) to the mound, while the Tides will send RHP Tyler Wilson (0-0, 10.13) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
