DURHAM, NC - Six Bulls had multi-hit games and five had multi-RBI games, as Durham thumped the Charlotte Knights by a score of 13-5 Monday night at the DBAP. Matt Torra made his 2012 debut for the club and earned the win, while Bulls hitters had a season high 18 hits. The Bulls are winners of three straight and lead the IL South by 2.0 games.
Leadoff hitter Jesus Feliciano led the offensive charge going 3-for-6 with two runs on the night, while Juan Miranda broke out of an 0-for-12 slump going 3-for-4 with a double, 3 R, and 2 RBI. Brandon Guyer smashed his second home run of the season to deep centerfield in the fourth inning, making it a 7-1 lead at the time. Matt Mangini continued his hot start, collecting an RBI in a 3-for-5 performance. Mangini now has a five game hitting streak, hitting .348 in that span, and is the only Bull with a hit in every game this season. Every Bulls starter collected a hit in the win except for Kyle Hudson, though the centerfielder did drive in two on sacrifices.
The Knights had a rough night in the field, committing five errors, with two errors in both the seventh and eighth innings. Shortstop Ozzie Martinez committed four of the five, while starter Terry Doyle threw a wild pitch that allowed Shawn O'Malley to score in the Bulls fourth inning.
Despite allowing five runs, Torra had a solid first outing. The Pittsfield, MA native went 5 1/3 with no walks and two strikeouts, giving up only three unearned runs. After allowing two solo home runs in the sixth inning, Bulls skipper Charlie Montoyo went to his pen and made the call for lefty Cesar Ramos. Ramos, Romulo Sanchez, and John Gaub combined to shut the door on Charlotte, securing the Bulls' third straight victory.
The Bulls and Knights are back at it tomorrow night, when the Bulls reset their rotation, and send LHP Alex Cobb (0-1, 1.80) to the hill against LHP Eric Stults (2011: 4-4, 4.63). Tomorrow, fans can purchase two tickets for only $9 dollars thanks to Whole Foods Market. Game time is set for 7:05pm at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
