Bulls Homer Three Times, Blank Knights

May 20, 2012
DURHAM, NC - The Bulls smashed three home runs en route to shutting out the Charlotte Knights 6-0 on Sunday evening at the DBAP. Cole Figueroa, Mayo Acosta and Leslie Anderson all homered, the first time the Bulls have hit three round trippers in a game this season.

Matt Torra (3-5, 5.51) took the hill for the Bulls and struggled to begin the game. He allowed a leadoff double to Greg Golson and loaded the bases in the second inning, but in both cases worked out of the jam. At one point in the second inning, lefty John Gaub warmed up in the bullpen, as the Knights were looking to take advantage of the bases loaded situation. Torra settled down and went on to throw six shutout innings allowing three hits, while walking one and striking out three. Gaub eventually entered the game in the 7th inning and threw three innings of shutout ball on his own, striking out five and walking one, all on his way to his first save of the season.

For the third time in four games, Durham scored a run in the first inning but kept up the offensive attack on Sunday, putting up runs in each of the first five frames. Figueroa blasted his first career Triple-A home run in the bottom of the second inning. The two run shot scored Acosta, who later smashed his first career Triple-A home run in the fourth inning. Anderson joined in the slug fest, as he crushed a 1-0 pitch to deep right field, a solo shot and his third of the year.

Hideki Matsui snapped an 0-for-11 streak with a single in the bottom of the third inning. The Japanese slugger finished the game going 1-for-4 game with a run scored. Henry Wrigley extended his hitting streak to four games with a 2-for-3 performance with a 2B and an RBI. He now has multi-hit games in three out four of those contests.

Durham is back it tomorrow in game three of the four game series against the Knights at the DBAP. LHP Charlie Leesman (3-4, 2.59) gets the nod for the Knights against RHP Lance Pendleton (1-1, 4.15). First pitch is at 7:05pm.
