Pendelton, Wrigley Lead Bulls Past Bats 3-1

Louisville, KY --- Lance Pendleton threw six strong innings, while Henry Wrigley doubled in two runs to lead the Durham Bulls past the Louisville Bats 3-1 at Louisville Slugger Field on Friday night.

Pendleton (W, 2-1), who had the third best ERA in the International League in May (2.05), fanned seven and walked one en route to his second Bulls victory.

The Bulls (24-32) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against starter Pedro Villarreal was pressed to 31 pitches in the inning. Stephen Vogt doubled to right-center, then Jesus Feliciano walked ahead of a low liner to left-center by Wrigley accelerated to the wall to score two runs.

The Bats (17-38) scored a run in the second against Pendleton, but mounted no true threats the rest of his outing.

In the sixth, Matt Mangini coaxed a walk from Villarreal on a 3-2 pitch, then scored on a triple to right-center by Cole Figueroa for a 3-1 lead.

Bryan Augenstein worked two scoreless innings, fanning consecutive hitters in the eighth with Joey Gathright at third base to maintain the 3-1 edge.

Brandon Gomes (S, 4) retired Corky Miller on a sawed-off hopper to the mound as the tying run in the last of the night.

The Bulls are now 4-3 on their 10-game road trip, and will shoot for their second straight over the Bats on Saturday night at 6:05 PM ET with Jim Paduch matched against Sean Gallagher.
