Torra Leads The Way In Skid Snapping Win

June 10, 2012
DURHAM, NC - For the second time this season, Matt Torra came to the rescue when the Bulls needed it most. Durham's bats busted out in support of their pitcher on Sunday, stopping the team's five game losing streak with a decisive 7-1 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens.

Torra (5-6, 4.77) nearly tossed a no-hitter in his start that ended the Bulls franchise tying 13-game losing streak on April 30th. His performance today was just as needed, as the former first round draft pick bewildered hitters in his five innings of work to snap yet another rough string of losses for the Bulls. He struck out a season high six batters on the day, allowing a run on three hits. Dane De La Rosa, Alex Torres and Brandon Gomes combined on a scoreless relief effort.

Torra did not need to be perfect, as the Durham offense awoke for the first time in the series. After falling behind 1-0 on a monster home run from IL HR leader Brad Eldred, the home team summed together two runs in bottom of the third to take their first lead of the homestand.

The Bulls then exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Torra all the support he would need. Stephen Vogt led off with his third single of the game and would score on a Henry Wrigley base hit. Four more runs would cross the plate in the frame thanks to six more singles. Vogt and Leslie Anderson both finished with 3-hit games, and every batter in the Bulls lineup had a hit in the contest.

With the series tied at one game apiece, Toledo and Durham continue the four game set on Monday night at 7:05pm. RHP Thad Weber (4-4, 3.05) is slated to pitch for the Mud Hens against Durham's RHP Lance Pendleton (2-2, 3.55).
