Hens Rout Bulls, Earn Series Split

June 12, 2012
DURHAM, NC - In a game that was televised nationally on MLB Network, the Durham Bulls fell to the Toledo Mud Hens by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday afternoon. Durham starter Jim Paduch was knocked out of the game early, failing to make it past the second inning as the teams split their first matchup of the season at two games apiece.

Paduch (2-5, 5.23) quickly fell into a hole, allowing two runs in the first inning. The following frame, the righty walked Jared Head and then gave up a home run over the Blue Monster to Brent Delugach. Paduch continued to struggle, hitting the following batter and serving up another home run, this one to Ryan Raburn. Toledo would put up runs in each of the first four innings and the Bulls could not put together a big inning to make things competitive.

Shawn O'Malley was the lone offensive bright spot for the Bulls, doubling and then scoring Durham's first run of the game in the third. In his following at bat, he hit his second home run of the season, just his fifth of his career. Durham managed just two more hits in their last four innings, and finished the homestand with a 2-6 record, the first losing homestand of the season. Andrew Oliver (4-5, 3.95) earned the victory for Toledo, allowing three runs on six scattered hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.

The Bulls are off on Wednesday, but hit the road to take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for a four game set starting Thursday. RHP Chris Archer (3-8, 5.04) will kick things off for the Bulls against LHP Pat Misch (3-8, 4.91) for the IronPigs. Patrick Kinas will have the call on 620 The Buzz, with first pitch set for 7:05pm.
