Aceves, PawSox Cool Bulls, 10-1

May 2, 2013
Pawtucket, RI -- Alfredo Aceves threw six shutout innings in his first minor league game in a year, leading Pawtucket past Durham 10-1 on Thursday night at McCoy Stadium.
Aceves (W, 1-0), who was demoted by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, allowed only two hits and struck out six to earn the victory. Aceves had saved 25 games for Boston in 2012, but went 1-1 with an 8.66 ERA in five appearances this season.
The Red Sox (16-11) broke a scoreless tie in the third against starter Alex Torres (L, 2-1) with three two-out runs. After a Torres walk filled the bases with two down, Ryan Lavarnway strokes a single to left, with Bryce Brentz doubling into the left field corner to make it 3-0 PawSox.
The deficit grew to 4-0 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Mark Hamilton. Pawtucket tacked on two against reliever Jim Paduch in the sixth and four more against Paduch in the eighth to put the Bulls (18-9) away.
The Bulls avoided their first shutout of the season when Chris Gimenez drooped a single inside the right field line in the eighth to score Wil Myers.
Myers had two of Durham's seven hits, with Rich Thompson singling twice.
Torres, who suffered his first loss of the season, fanned five over five innings, but issued three walks and five hits. Five of the first six runs by Pawtucket scored with two outs.
The series continues on Friday night at 6:15 PM ET with Alex Colome starting for Durham against RH Allen Webster.
