Colome, Bulls Drop 5-1 Decision In Louisville

June 9, 2013
Louisville, KY --- A two-run double by Denis Phipps cracked a 1-1 tie in the sixth, lifting the Louisville Bats past the Durham Bulls 5-1 on Sunday night.
A pitchers' duel materialized for 5 1/2 innings between Durham's Alex Colome and Louisville's Greg Reynolds, with a 1-1 game into the sixth. However, after recording two outs in the sixth, Colome walked two straight hitters before a double to right-center by Phipps to put the Bats ahead 3-1.
Louisville added two more runs in the eighth for a 5-1 lead.
The Bulls threatened in the ninth, putting the first two hitters aboard. After a strikeout, Tim Beckham looped a ball into short right field, but Bats outfileder Josh Fellhauer charged and couldn't make the catch, but Leslie Anderson froze between first and second. Fellhauer picked up the pop fly on the bounce and fired to second to force out Anderson. The game ended on a liner to centerfield by Cole Figueroa.
Colome (L, 4-6) took the loss, allowing three runs over six innings. Greg Reynolds (W, 7-0) worked a batter into the ninth inning to remain undefeated. Reynolds allowed six hits, all singles.
The Bulls had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a two-out single to left-center by Beckham.
Despite the loss, the Bulls maintained their three game lead in the South over Norfolk, which lost in 13 innings at Indianapolis.
JD Martin starts the third game of the series on Monday night at 7:05 PM ET.
