Mud Hens Jump On Romero, Cruise Over Bulls, 12-4

Lefty Allows Eight; Durham Has 5-Game Winning Streak Snapped

Toledo, OH --- Toledo knocked out Durham starter Enny Romero in the second inning, scoring eight times, easing to a 12-4 victory over the Bulls on Tuesday night.

The Mud Hens (24-28) batted around in the first inning, scoring five times against Romero (L, 2-5), then chased Romero with three more in the second for an early 8-1 lead. 

Wilson Betemit and Justin Christian hit solo homers in the middle innings, but the closest the Bulls (31-22) would get was 8-3 in the fourth inning.

Doug Mathis worked 4 1/3 innings of long relief of Romero, fanning eight hiters before Braulio Lara pitched two perfect innings to close out the contest.

Christian finished 2-3 with a double and his first home run since April 22nd. Christian scored three of the four Durham runs. Mikie Mahtook picked up two more singles, lifting his average to .322.

Romero lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs on six hits and three walks.

The loss was the first for Durham on its current 8-game road trip through Ohio after five straight wins. The Bulls continue to lead the South Division, but now by 1 1/2 games after Gwinnett's victory in Pawtucket Tuesday.

Matt Andriese (4-3, 4.73) starts Wednesday morning at 10:30 am for the Bulls against Derek Hankins (2-4, 6.22)
