Major League Baseball's Fall Classic begins Friday evening in Houston, with three former Bulls players looking to join the many other Durham alums who have etched their name in history as World Series Champions. The Houston Astros boasts former Bulls right-hander Ryne Stanek, while the Philadelphia Phillies count both 2021 Bulls right-hander David Robertson and 2017 and 2019 southpaw Jose Alvarado on their staff.

Stanek in his three seasons with the Bulls from 2016-18 combined for a 5-5 record and 2.75 ERA (78.2 IP) over 63 appearances, adding 11 saves in 14 opportunities, adding a 1.12 WHIP and .189 batting average against. His best season came during the 2017 campaign, tallying a 3-0 mark and 1.21 ERA (44.2 IP) across 37 relief outings, notching eight saves in as many attempts.

The 31-year-old has been excellent with the Astros this year, compiling a 2-1 clip and 1.15 ERA (54.2 IP) over 59 regular season outings. He has not allowed a run in two playoff appearances in 2022 over two frames, fanning four of the six batters he has faced.

Robertson is the most recent Bulls player to wear a Durham uniform, appearing in six games during the 2021 campaign. He tallied no record and yielded a lone unearned run in six innings pitched during the month of August, striking out 12 batters while allowing one walk.

The 37-year-old started the 2022 season with the Chicago Cubs and accumulated a 3-0 clip and 2.23 ERA (40.1 IP) with 14 saves in 36 appearances before being acquired by the Phillies on August 2 in exchange for right-hander Ben Brown. In 22 contests for Philadelphia he has recorded a 1-3 mark and 2.70 ERA (23.1 IP) with six saves, adding 30 strikeouts. Over four postseason outings this year he owns a 1-0 record and 2.45 ERA (3.2 IP) with six strikeouts.

Alvarado in his two years with the Bulls combined for an 0-2 record and 3.86 ERA (21.0 IP) over 20 regular season outings, adding 29 punchouts. During the 2019 season he appeared in four games, tallying no record and 3.38 ERA (2.2 IP). On August 7, 2019 he combined with three other Durham pitchers, including Arturo Reyes, Ricardo Pinto and Hoby Milner in recording a nine-inning no-hitter over Syracuse.

In 59 relief outings with the Phillies this year, the 27-year-old has posted a 4-2 record and 3.18 ERA (51.0 IP) with two saves, adding 81 strikeouts compared to 24 walks, along with a 1.22 WHIP and .203 batting average against.
