Tides Take Bulls In Opener, 4-2

Field's Three Hits Not Enough For Durham
June 17, 2016

Norfolk, VA --- Christian Walker's sacrifice fly in the third inning snapped a 2-2 tie, leading the Norfolk Tides past the Durham Bulls 4-2 at Harbor Park on Friday night.

Down two runs early, Durham (30-39) squared the game in the third on a single by Nick Franklin and a bases loaded walk to Jake Goebbert to make it 2-2. However, the Bulls left the bases loaded in inning, after doing the same in the first inning.

The Tides (24-44) reclaimed the lead on Walker's sac fly to bring home Trey Mancini for a 3-2 lead. Norfolk added a run in the fifth to move ahead 4-2.

Durham managed just three baserunners over the final five innings.

Jaime Schultz (L, 5-4) worked three innings on 76 pitches, permitting four hits and three walks and three runs to absorb the loss. Parker Markel, Neil Wagner and Danny Farquhar combined to allow one run over the game's final five innings.

Johnny Field went 3-5 to lead the Bulls offense. Richie Shaffer added two singles in four at-bats.

The series continues Saturday night with Austin Pruitt (5-4, 3.16) opposing Ariel Miranda (1-7, 5.37) at 7:05 PM ET.
