Back-to-Back Bombs Blow Away Boise

Senzatela keeps Hawks offense quiet
August 18, 2013

The Tri-City Dust Devils scored double-digit runs for the second night in a row as they thumped the Boise Hawks 10-2 Sunday night at Gesa Stadium.

Tri-City (9-15 Second Half, 28-34 Overall) was up 1-0 going into the bottom of the third inning. That's when things got exciting for the Dust Devils. Center fielder Kyle Von Tungeln led off the inning with a solo home run to right field. Not to be outdone, catcher Chris O'Dowd matched him with a solo shot of his own to right field. The Dust Devils hadn't hit back-to-back home runs at Gesa Stadium since July 16, 2002.

Von Tungeln and O'Dowd continued to be an offensive juggernaut, with Von Tungeln going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and O'Dowd going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Dust Devils shortstop Alec Mehrten, the Papa John's Hit Man of the game, went 1-for-3. Since he recorded a hit everyone can head to papajohns.com and type in promo code "dustdevils" where you can buy any pizza and receive a second pizza of equal or lesser value for free. This promo code is valid tomorrow only, Monday, August 19th, at all Tri-City locations.

Tri-City right-hander Antonio Senzatela (2-3) gave up just one run to Boise in his 5 1/3 innings on Sunday. That is the fewest he has given up in any of his seven starts as a Dust Devils starter. He allowed six hits and walked two while striking out three in the win.

Hawks (14-10, 35-27) starter Paul Blackburn (1-3) had a rough night against the Dust Devils hitters. Blackburn gave up four runs on seven hits, including the back-to-back homers in the third. His night ended after three innings with three walks and three strikeouts as he took the loss.

The Northwest League had an outburst of power on Saturday. There were eight home runs throughout the league. The average number of homers hit per day in the league is 3.23.

The fourth game of five between the Dust Devils and Hawks will be Monday Night at Gesa Stadium. It will be Coca-Cola Monday at the ballpark, with all 22-ounce Coca Cola products on sale for $1. Righty Logan Norris will get the nod for Tri-City, and right-hander James Pugliese will take the mound for Boise, with first pitch at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available by visiting www.dustdevilsbaseball.com or calling the front office at (509) 544-8789.
