NCAA Batting Champ Joins Dust Devils

Four others arrive in Tri-City
June 12, 2014

Drew Weeks joined the Tri-City Dust Devils on Thursday. Weeks is an outfielder who led all NCAA Division I hitters with a .430 batting average, which is also a University of North Florida record. He broke two other school records for longest hitting streak at 31 games and for most hits in a season with 95. He is the only North Florida player to ever hit for the cycle.

Weeks was named a First-Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for 2014 and was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week two times in his college career, once in April of 2013 and the other in March of 2014. The Rockies took Weeks in the 7th round of last week's MLB First Year Draft before assigning him to the Dust Devils.

2014 draft picks Richard Prigatano, Roberto Ramos and Grahamm Wiest will also join Tri-City along with undrafted free agent Josh Fuentes.

Prigatano was awarded First-Team All-Big West Conference honors as an outfielder from Long Beach State University. He was second in the Big West in stolen bases with 21 and third in RBIs with 47. The Rockies selected him in the 11th round.

Wiest was selected as a Second-Team All-Big West Conference starting pitcher. He was fifth in the Big West with 86 strikeouts. He was picked in the 14th round of last week's draft.

Ramos is an infielder named First-Team All-Western State Conference South Division. He was selected by the Rockies in the 16th round out of College of the Canyons in California.

Fuentes was signed by the Rockies as a free agent this spring. He was a First-Team All-Midwest Conference honoree. He had a .365 batting average and 47 RBIs for Missouri Baptist University this season.

The Dust Devils open the season in Boise on Friday night at 6:15 p.m. pacific time. The first game to be played at Gesa Stadium will be on Wednesday, June 18th at 7:15 p.m. against the Everett AquaSox.
