A strong performance from the team's pitching staff was not enough for the Tri-City Dust Devils (13-12) on Sunday as the team lost 2-1 to the Eugene Emeralds. Starter Emmanuel Ramirez kept the team in the game throughout the afternoon, allowing only two runs in seven innings of work.
The Dust Devils jumped out to an early lead in the first inning despite not having a hit. After reaching off of an error, Kelvin Melean scored on a wild pitch to give Tri-City the advantage to start the game. The Emeralds tied the game in the fifth inning after Brandon Hughes had a solo blast, which was the first home run of his professional career. The Dust Devils had a great chance to take back the lead in the top of the seventh inning, but could not capitalize after having the bases loaded with only one out. Hughes struck again for Eugene in the bottom of the seventh inning, bringing home what became the game's winning run with a sacrifice fly.
The seven-game road trip will come to an end for Tri-City on Monday night. Left-hander Adrian Morejon will star the series final for the team. The Emeralds will counter with right-hander Javier Assad. The team will return to Gesa Stadium on July 12th for Thunder Alley Motorsports Night presented by Thunder Alley Motorsports. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
