Greeneville, Tennessee - Elizabethton Twins starter Andriu Marin was fantastic through his first four innings, but a six-run fifth inning from the Greeneville Reds was too much for the E-Twins to come back from, falling to the Reds 6-2 Thursday night.
Marin struck out seven though four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk. The wheels came off in the fifth as two singles, two walks and a hit batter in the inning caused Marin to leave the game. A double off Ryan Shreve immediately out of the bullpen and a single two batters later saw the inning end with six runs scored.
Shreve held Greeneville scoreless in the sixth and Steven Cruz pitched perfect innings in the seventh and eighth with four strikeouts, but the offense could not get past the massive fifth inning.
Elizabethton was held hitless until the sixth inning when Matt Wallner singed two two outs. Kidany Salva and Ruben Santana both angled in the seventh and came home to score on a Charles Mack single and E8.
Those two runs were the only Elizabethton could score, as the Twins put four more runners on in the final two innings but could not score, held to four hits in the game.
The E-Twins look to win the series with the G-Reds Friday night with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch and Sawyer Gipson-Long scheduled to start for Elizabethton.
