DANVILLE, VA - For the first time in their series with the Danville Braves, the Elizabethton Twins held a lead, scoring in the second, just to lose it in the eighth and see the Braves walk off in the 10th inning, 3-2.
Trevor Jensen, who did not record an official at-bat, drove in the game's first run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly. He later became insurance, scoring after his third walk of the game on a Danville error in the seventh, at the time making the score 2-0.
Outside of his success, the Twins struggled offensively. Kidany Salva was the only Elizabethton hitter with more than one hit and the top four batters in the lineup combined to go 1-18.
In the truest sense of the phrase, Saturday was a bullpen game for the E-Twins. Right-handed starter Tyler Benninghoff was struck by a line drive in his throwing arm in the first pitch of the first inning.
Frandy Torres immediately relieved Benninghoff with four scoreless innings, striking out four. Denny Bentley followed with three innings of one-run ball, keeping Elizabethton ahead by one.
Benjamin Dum took over in the eighth, surrendering the tying run but pitching a 1-2-3 ninth that forced extra innings. After the Twins could not score in the 10th, Dum continued his outing but only got one out, allowing the winning run to score on a fielder's choice, allowing the D-Braves to sweep the E-Twins.
Elizabethton continues its road trip in Princeton, for three against the Princeton Rays, Sunday to Tuesday before two in Johnson City against the Cardinals.
