Emeralds Nominated for Larry MacPhail Award

November 4, 2013

The Eugene Emeralds, Short Season Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, have been selected by the Northwest League as the 2013 nominee for the Larry MacPhail Promotional Award, which is presented to a club in Minor League Baseball that has demonstrated outstanding and creative marketing and promotional efforts. It is the third straight season the Ems have been nominated by the Northwest League for the award.

The Larry MacPhail Promotional Award is "presented to a club that demonstrated outstanding and creative marketing and promotional efforts within its community, its ballpark (including non-game day events), in media and other promotional materials." The national winner of the award is selected by Minor League Baseball and honored at the 2013 Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando, Florida.

"We are extremely proud to be recognized by the Northwest League with this nomination," said Allan Benavides, Emeralds General Manager. "This is a reflection of the hard work put in by our staff to create a unique and memorable experience for each of our fans every time they pass through the gates at PK Park."

One of the team's most popular promotions was its Bats and Tats night on July 23rd; in which local tattoo artists competed to be honored with the best Emeralds inspired tattoo. Videos of that tattoos in progress were featured throughout the night on the video board and fans voted online for their favorite tattoo.

The team also held the first ever Sasquatch Throwdown, a crossfit competition that took place at PK Park in August. The season also featured many great giveaways like a Sasquatch bobblefoot, an insulated reusable water bottle, a Christmas ornament and more.

The Emeralds open their 2014 season June 18 at PK Park at 7:05 p.m. against the Boise Hawks. Individual tickets for games during the 2014 season are not available at this time. Fans may contact the Emeralds ticket office for information about full-season and mini plan ticket packages. Groups of 20 or more may also reserve their spots for any game during next season.
