Ems Make it Three Straight

July 13, 2013

The Emeralds came into game four of this five game series with Everett looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season. Lefty Jeff Enloe started for Eugene and with his strict pitch count went just two innings retiring all six men that he faced.

Eugene's offense didn't wait long as they loaded the bases in the 2nd setting up a 3-run Marcus Davis double. The Ems would add another run in the 3rd after Hunter Renfroe beat out an infield single and scored two batters later on a Fernando Perez RBI single making it 4-0.

Manager Jim Gabella called on Tayron Guerrero for four innings of relief and Guerero delivered by scattering a couple of hits, a pair of walks and a hit batsman. Guerrero was aided by catcher Ryan Miller's presence behind the plate. Miller threw out would be base stealers in the 3rd, 5th and 6th innings to quiet Everett's attack.

The Ems used a two-out rally in the 6th to add another run. Ronnie Richardson singled and took second when pitcher Min-Sih Chen's pick off attempt went awry. Henry Charles made Chen pay with an RBI knock and Eugene led 6-0.

Genison Reyes came in for Guerrero and struck out the side in the 7th after allowing the first two men to reach base. He came back out for a scoreless 8th when he pitched through a double and a single.

In the bottom of the 8th, Henry Charles was hit by an 0-2 pitch extending the inning for Hunter Renfroe. The Padres first round pick rewarded the fans who hung around for the entirety of the game with a mammoth blast for his first professional home run.   He turned around a 1-0 offering and hit it halfway up the batter's eye in straight away center field. The 8-0 win gives the Emeralds 7 shutouts in their 11 wins this season.

Eugene will try to make it four straight in the series finale Sunday night back at PK Park with first pitch set for 5:05pm.   Tickets are still available at EmeraldsBaseball.com or you can listen live at 95.3fm the Score.
