Eugene, OR - An early threat did not come through for the Emeralds as they fell for the second straight game 5-_ to the Vancouver Canadians in front 2,967 at PK Park on Friday.
Eugene (0-2) led off the second inning with a single by Joe Martarano. From there Edgar Rondon grounded out to end the inning and early threat.
Vancouver (2-0) flipped the script the next inning and went on the attack. A throwing error by Aramis Vincuna reached on an error. Morgan struck out once again for the first out of the inning, but Jones reached base safely on an infield single.
Pruitt grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Barreto and made it a 5-0 game.
The Ems would threaten just once more in the bottom of the fifth inning when Zach Davis walked with one out. Canadians starter Dalton Rodriguez (1-0, 0.00 ERA) then balked and moved Davis to second, but Rodriguez came back and struck out Narea drove a ball into left field for his first hit of the year, putting runners on first and third with two outs. Rodriguez got out of the jam by inducing a ground ball by Miguel Amaya to end the inning.
The Emeralds look to bounce back and capture their first victory of the year on Saturday at 7:05 PM. Eugene will be celebrating the Cubs World Series title, and Clark the Cub will be in attendance. Tickets can be purchased at emeraldsbaseball.com.
