The SeaWolves put up a 10-spot for the second straight game as they took down the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 10-0, in game one of Wednesday night's doubleheader, improving their second half record to 6-1.
The SeaWolves jumped all over Rumble Ponies starter Luc Rennie in the top of the first inning. Isaac Paredes was hit by a pitch with one out and Jose Azocar singled to the opposite field. A wild pitch advanced the runners up a base and Frank Schwindel put Erie ahead 1-0 on a sacrifice fly. Josh Lester followed with a two-run home run, his ninth, for a 3-0 Erie lead. Kody Eaves singled and Sergio Alcántara walked to put a pair on ahead of Chace Numata. Numata doubled home both baserunners with a liner down the right field line for a 5-0 lead.
Rennie would go on to retire the next nine batters he faced but was rudely greeted by Cam Gibson as he led off the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run to right. The second home run of the season for Gibson made it 6-0 SeaWolves.
Erie again added to the lead in the sixth. With Eaves at first following a fielder's choice, Alcantara doubled putting a pair in scoring position for Numata. Numata lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Eaves for an 7-0 lead. Luke Burch then singled home Alcantara, making it 8-0. Gibson singled and it would be the last batter Rennie faced. The Ponies summoned Joseph Shaw out of the pen. Shaw gave up a rocket to Paredes to third and the ball was ruled an error. Two additional runs scored for a 10-0 Erie advantage.
Erie starter Anthony Castro (3-1) earned his second straight win. He hurled 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Rennie (0-2) took the loss for Binghamton allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
