The SeaWolves carried the momentum on Thursday night's thrilling win as they stunned the Trenton Thunder with a 5-4, come-from-behind victory on Friday at ARM & HAMMER Park.
Trenton struck first in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Sandy Baez. Francisco Diaz singled with one out and advanced to second on a Jeff Hendrix groundout. Diaz scored on a Billy Flemming flare single to center for a 1-0 lead.
The Thunder added to the lead in the sixth when Flemming connected on a one-out, solo home run off of Baez to make it 2-0. The home run for Flemming was his fourth.
The SeaWolves rallied late for the second straight night and it came in the eighth against reliever Justin Kamplain. With one out, Erie loaded the bases on a Will Maddox base hit and back-to-back walks by Dominic Ficociello and Josh Lester. Thursday night's hero Chad Sedio came through once again on Friday with the bases loaded and two outs and he singled to center, plating Maddox and Ficociello, tying the game 2-2. Jake Rogers then walked to re-load the bases for Kenny Wilson. Trenton summoned lefty Caleb Frare to face the Erie right fielder. Wilson sent a bloop double to right, scoring both Lester and Seido. Jake Rogers also scored on an error on the play, capping a five-run inning, giving the 'Wolves a 5-2 advantage.
Baez came back out to work the eighth but gave up a leadoff double and was lifted in favor of Mark Ecker. Ecker struck out the side, stranding the Trenton baserunner, sending Erie into the ninth with a three-run lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Trey Amburgey singled, moved to second on a passed ball and got to third on a wild pitch. Chris Gittens then walked and Ecker was taken out for John Schreiber. Schreiber walked Zack Zehner to load the bases with no outs for Gosuke Katoh. Katoh hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Amburgey with Erie retiring Zeher at second. Jhalan Jackson then lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Gittens to make it 5-4. Schreiber ended the game by striking out Rey Navarro, for his seventh save of the year.
Baez (1-5) earned his first Double-A win. He allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings pitched, equaling his season-high.
Kamplain (0-1) took the loss for Trenton allowing five runs, four earned, on two hits with three walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings of relief.
Dillon Tate, the Trenton starter, took a no-decision tossing 6.1 scoreless frames, allowing our hits with two walks and a season-high 10 strikeouts.
The SeaWolves will look for their third straight win on Saturday night against the Thunder at 7 p.m. Righty Spencer Turnbull (3-5, 4.29 ERA) takes the mound for Erie.
