SeaWolves Drop Game One to Curve

The Altoona Curve took game one of Saturday's doubleheader at PNG Field, 6-4 over the SeaWolves.
The Curve jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Alfred Gutierrez. Cole Tucker led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a Ke'Bryan Hayes double. Bryan Reynolds singled home both baserunners for a 2-0 lead. Will Craig doubled Reynolds over to third, putting two in scoring position for Jordan George. George doubled home Reynolds and Craig for a 4-0 lead. Logan Hill followed with the fourth double of the inning, plating George for a 5-0 lead.
The SeaWolves responded in the top of the fourth against Curve starter Luis Escobar. With one out and Josh Lester on first, Dominic Ficociello doubled off the wall in center, plating Lester making it 5-1. With two outs, Erie loaded the bases on a Kody Eaves infield single and Josh Thole walk. Will Maddox singled home Ficociello and Eaves to make it a 5-3 game. Danny Woodrow completed the four-run inning with a base hit to center that scored Thole to make it a one-run game. Erie would get no closer.
Altoona added an insurance run in the sixth. Alfredo Reyes doubled with one out and stole third base. Hayes singled home Reyes making it 6-4.
Escobar (3-0) earned the win for Altoona allowing four runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in five innings.
Matt Eckelman earned his seventh save tossing a scoreless seventh.
Gutierrez (2-2) took the loss for Erie allowing a season-high six runs on 11 hits with no walks and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
