SeaWolves Drop Series Finale in Reading

The SeaWolves dropped the series finale to the Reading Fightin Phils 3-2 on Thursday night at First Energy Stadium.
Reading broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning against Erie reliever Nolan Blackwood. With two outs in the frame, Mickey Moniak and Josh Stephen connected on back-to-back singles. Darick Hall followed and grounded to the shortstop Sergio Alcántara. On a throwing error, Moniak scored for a 1-0 Reading lead.
The Fightins added to the lead in the sixth against reliever Zac Houston. Grenna Cumana led off with a walk and Cornelius Randolph singled to put runners on the corners. Luke Williams grounded out plating Cumana and Henri Lartigue hit into a fielder's choice to bring home Randolph for a 3-0 lead.
Reading starter Adonis Media was solid hurling seven scoreless frames and facing just two batters over the minimum before running into trouble in the eighth. Josh Lester led off with a walk but was erased at second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Sergio Alcantara. Cam Gibson tripled home Alcantara to make it a 3-1 game. A.J. Simcox followed and lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Gibson, cutting the Reading lead down to a run at 3-2.
The SeaWolves attempted to rally in the ninth against reliever Addison Russ but came up short. With two outs Frank Schwindel singled and Kade Scivicque doubled to put runners on second and third. Russ struck out Lester to end the game
Medina (5-2) earned his fifth straight win for Reading. He allowed two runs on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 7.1 innings.
Blackwood (1-2) took the loss for Erie allowing an unearned run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
The SeaWolves return to UPMC Park on Friday night as they host the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) at 7:05 p.m.

Jody will circle the bases immediately following the 4th inning with both the SeaWolves and the Yard Goats standing on the field to cheer him on.
