The SeaWolves completed a series win on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Akron RubberDucks, 2-0 at Canal Park.
The SeaWolves broke the scoreless tie in the sixth against RubberDucks starter Jake Paulson. Herlis Rodriguez led off and reached on an infield single. Danny Woodrow followed with a single to left-center for his first Double-A hit. A.J. Simcox laid down a sacrifice bunt to push the runners into scoring position for the top of the lineup. Jacob Robson, who had four hits on Saturday, singled to right, scoring Rodriguez for a 1-0 lead. Will Maddox then laid down a squeeze bunt, plating Woodrow for a 2-0 advantage.
The two runs would be enough for the SeaWolves who tossed their third combined shutout in the past eight games.
Erie starter Spencer Turnbull (2-3) earned his second straight win tossing five shutout innings, allowing three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Turnbull got into a jam in the first inning, allowing the Ducks to load the bases, but navigated through. Two of the three hits he allowed came in the first two innings.
Jake Paulson (2-1) took the loss for the Ducks despite tossing a quality start. He allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Kyle Dowdy earned his second save of the season tossing the final 1.2 scoreless frames for Erie, retiring all five batters he faced.
Relievers Gerson Moreno and Kurt Spomer combined to throw 2.1 scoreless innings to bridge the gap to Dowdy.
The SeaWolves continue the road trip on Monday night as they take on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets) at NYSEG Stadium at 6:35 p.m. Righty Kyle Funkhouser (0-3, 5.46 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Mikey Jannis (3-1, 5.31 ERA).
