The Erie SeaWolves, Double-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are pleased to announce that the Mojo & AC Rocket Dog has won the honor of top Minor League Baseball concession item in the nationwide BUSH'S Home Run Recipes Contest.
The Rocket Dog, named after Rocket 101 Morning Show hosts Mojo & AC, was a creation by UPMC Park chef Ed Coleman of Professional Sports Catering. The recipe features a freshly grilled Jumbo Smith's Hot Dog, locally made in Erie, Pennsylvania, topped with in-house smoked pulled pork, homemade macaroni & cheese, grilled bacon and dressed with rocket fuel (BBQ sauce). Fans can purchase the Rocket Dog, made-to-order by Grill Master Joe Fiore, at the Smith's Sausage Shack during each SeaWolves game at UPMC Park. The Rocket Dog received the most votes of the 65 food items entered by minor league teams from across the country.
Entering the final day of voting in the hotly contested food fight, the Rocket Dog was in third place before surging to the top with tremendous support from the local media and the Erie community. The Mojo & AC Rocket Dog beat out fierce competition from a Charred Romaine Salad from the Triple-A Round Rock Express and the Burger For The Seoul from the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats.
"The SeaWolves would like to thank the many fans and team partners who voted and promoted to make this honor possible," SeaWolves President Greg Coleman said. "We are thrilled to see a Smith's Hot Dog recognized as the top food item in Minor League Baseball, and we thank BUSH's for their support of family fun at UPMC Park and at ballparks across the country."
As the "top dog" in all of Minor League Baseball, the SeaWolves will be presented an award and receive a visit from Duke, BUSH's spokesdog. Details of Duke's visit will be announced at a later date. Additionally, one lucky fan who voted will receive a trip to Erie later this season to try the Mojo & AC Rocket Dog at UPMC Park.
Additionally, July is National Baked Beans Month and the SeaWolves will partner with BUSH's on Tuesday, July 25 to host a food drive at UPMC Park to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania. Fans can bring non-perishable food items to the ballpark. Fans who donate three or more items will receive a voucher redeemable for an Upper Box ticket to any 2017 remaining Sunday home game at UPMC Park.
